Licensed and Insured Roofing Contractors Handle a Variety of Roofing Upgrades

by | Nov 25, 2016 | Roofing

How do you know when it is time to replace your roof? You can find out more information and discuss the issue on Facebook, or you can contact one of the licensed and insured roofing contractors in your area. If you are experiencing leaks right now, then in all likelihood, you will need to get the roof replaced. Leaks can lead to serious structural damage, so adding a new roof will only make your home safer and more secure.

How Old Is Your Roof?

When you consider your roofing needs, determine the age of your existing roof. A roof typically will last about 25 years. It depends on the layers of shingles or if your home has proper ventilation. If your current roof was installed over one or more layers of shingles and is at least 20 years old, you probably need to replace your roof.

What About the Valleys?

Licensed and insured roofing contractors also suggest that you look for signs of buckling or curling. If you notice any shingles, for instance, that are losing granules or are curling, then they have outlived their life expectancy. Also, if your shingles are missing or falling off in the valleys of the roof, you need to call a contractor immediately. Because valleys are one of the most important roof areas, they are also susceptible to leaks.

Check Your Chimney Flashing

Another item to check is the chimney flashing. If the flashing consists of tar or roof cement, it needs to be replaced with a watertight seal that will last a long time, such as a metal flashing system. Also, look inside your gutters. If they are clogged with granules, you need to have the roof replaced.

Check the Attic

Sunlight streaming through the roof boards is yet another sign that your roof should be replaced. Also, look for moisture in the attic’s insulation.

Any of the above signs are indicators that you need to have your roof replaced. Discuss your options today with a roofing contractor.
