Should You Choose Wood Flooring for Carpet for Your Home?

It seems as if everyone these days wants wood flooring in their homes, so much so that they are tearing out carpet and replacing it with wood flooring anytime they get the chance. Many times when someone purchases an older home they are blessed to find hardwood floors beneath the carpet. Wood flooring has so much value to the general public that it can sometimes increase the value of the homes it is found in or put in. We are going to look at a few of the pros and cons of both wood flooring and carpeting. We will start out by looking a little deeper into carpet and all it has to offer and some disadvantages of it as well.

One of the things folks seem to love about carpet is that it is quite and comfortable. There is nothing quite like stepping out of your bed onto a warm fuzzy carpet. Your feet are not going to get that morning chill from carpet and therefore you may not hesitate to get out of your warm and cozy bed so early each day. Carpet is also good because it is hard to slip on and it is very forgiving if you drop something breakable on it.

A negative side to carpet is that different types of carpet are constantly going in and out of style. Many older homes that have carpet will typically have the shag carpet. This type of carpet can really date a home and may make it harder to sell if you ever need to move. New carpeting on the other hand can cause sinus and breathing problems because the newer carpets are loaded with chemical smells that are hazardous to our health.

Carpet is also high maintenance as it shows wear and tear much easier than wood flooring. Hardwood floors require minimal maintenance. Basically all you need to do to keep hardwood floors looking wonderful is to mop them a couple times a week.

Hardwood flooring is also safe and clean for you and your family. There are no harmful chemical smells associated with hard woods and therefore allergy sufferers have no issues with it. Wood flooring usually does cost more than carpet but in the long run it is actually cheaper because you do not have as much wear and tear and not as much maintenance with wood flooring.

Wood flooring is also very beautiful and adds value to your home. Hardwood floors are never going out of style because everyone loves them and wants them in their homes. As mentioned earlier many people who move into a home with carpet are very quick to tear it out and expose the beautiful hardwoods underneath.
