During the hot summer months, perhaps one of the most refreshing experiences is diving into your clean swimming pool. However, keeping the water clean and well-maintained is much easier said than done. Here are several quick tips for maintaining your swimming pool water that you should remember throughout the spring and summer months, including why you should pool chlorine tablets:
Always Use Test Strips
Make sure that you only use the testing strips that show the alkaline, chlorine and pH levels along with cyanuric acid – such as the ones included in the Pulsar Systems collection of commercial pool cleaning products. Submerse the strip about 1 ½ feet into the water away from your skimmer and leave it there for 10 seconds. When you remove it, do not shake off the water because you want to wait a sufficient amount of time before the color codes fill in accordingly. Compare the color reading to the ranges outlined on the product bottle.
What to Consider When Using Chemical Tablets
If you decide to use bromine tablets as the sanitizer for preventing algae, pathogen and bacterial growth in your pool water, the chlorine test reading should range between 2 and 4 ppm. On the other hand, if you decide to apply pool chlorine tablets instead, there is nothing wrong that as long as you add them directly to the chlorinator.
If you apply them in sets of 2 or 3 simultaneously, it should last nearly 7 days before the need to add another set arises. Remember, you can also place the chlorine tablets within the floater basket as long as you remove the basket before diving into the pool for a swim.
